Earl Lambert, along with his wife Agnes, brother Robert, and sister-in-law Ruby, opened a charming café in Sikeston in 1942. Years later, in 1976, their son Norman, affectionately known as “Ole Norm,” took the reins. Norman brought a unique touch to the café by playfully tossing rolls to customers, a tradition that became a beloved hallmark of the restaurant.

However, this playful act took a tragic turn in August 2015 when a customer suffered permanent eye injuries from a hot roll. This incident was not the first of its kind; Lambert’s had faced similar lawsuits in the past. The plaintiff’s lawyer revealed that other customers had also filed claims, and some restaurants even covered medical expenses due to such accidents. Despite the joy and laughter these rolls brought over the years, they also led to heartbreaking legal challenges and painful memories for some.
